Main Focus Areas

A vacancy exists for an Admission Consultant within the Acute Rehabilitation Unit at Ethekwini Hospital & Heart Centre. This successful candidate will report to the Practice Manager.

Key Performance Areas: (include but are not limited to)

  • To assess patients referred to the unit for in-patient admission and arrange authorization in consultation with the referring doctor, funder, patient and family. Submit admission, weekly progress, motivation and discharge reports to the funders within the timeframe required
  • To introduce and familiarize the key stakeholders in the acute hospital settings with the rehabilitation unit. Additionally, have knowledge of different funders and their plans.
  • Promote and maintain sound and productive relationships with referrals sources and stakeholders in the field of rehabilitation and rehabilitation team in the unit.
  • Travel and conduct patient assessment at the acute hospital or home (where possible) for in-patient admission.
  • Present the patients’ for admission at weekly management meetings.
  • Communicate with funders to obtain authorization for the admission and on-going in-patient stay. Additionally, communicate with referring doctor, patient, family and rehabilitation team regarding the confirmed date of admission and provide updates during the patients stay.
  • Manage the rehabilitation accounts and credit risk.
  • Develop and implement a marketing strategy for catchment areas, referral base and funders with the national and the hospital marketing team.
  • Promote and grow new business
  • Promote customer satisfaction within the unit, address customer complaints, conduct quality care rounds to monitor satisfaction levels and report accordingly.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders (i.e. HODs, enabling functions, patients, family members, service providers etc.) through ongoing communication and feedback.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with doctors by driving and monitoring effective communication regarding positive patient outcomes, functioning as an advocate for Lenmed.

Post Requirements: (include but are not limited to)

  • A relevant nursing qualification, health professional or social work degree
  • Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse, health professional with HPCSA or social worker with South African Social work council
  • Compliance with the SANC code for a nurse or in good standing with HPCSA or South African Social work council and all applicable health care legislations
  • BLS certification is advised
  • Ensure clinical expertise within nursing or health profession or social work (3-5 years of clinical experience in an acute hospital setting)
  • Experience in interacting with medical aids or other funders is an advantage.
  • An intermediate level of Computer proficiency
  • Valid South African drivers License
  • Knowledge related clinical conditions in orthopedics, neurology, cardiac care, trauma, long term medical complications.
  • Computer Literacy
